| Berlin Wood Products,
Inc., is in the center of Amish Country in Holmes County (Berlin),
Ohio.
My father, John, started the business in 1965 with several
other businessmen. Initially, their vision for the business
was to become a lawn and garden tool manufacturer and sell
various models of wheelbarrows and moving carts.
After a few years, these men "changed gears"
and focused on the wood components of these units and sold
these items to the major companies in the industry. By the
early '70's, the company developed the wooden wagon line
to utilize wood material not usable in their other markets.
Thus, the Berlin Flyer wagon was born.
We still make wheelbarrow handles, but we make a lot of
wood, dimension stock that is used in many different markets.
Currently, we have around 20 Amish employees
many of
them have been here for over 15 years. John has since retired,
and I've been given the opportunity to handle the business
for the 2nd generation.
Today's Berlin wagon is virtually the same wagon that rolled
off our production line over 30 years ago. The only items
we buy finished for the wagons are the wheels and bolt packs.
Everything else is done in our factory
American made!
We feel we have the best quality, longest lasting, durable
wagon on the market today. Biased? You betcha! Our company
philosophy has been, is currently, and always will be that
we don't want to be the biggest
we only want to be
the best.
To date, we are not in major retail stores. We are a small,
family-run business. We have, however, dealt with various
marketing concepts over the years where we would have to
substitute less expensive materials to meet their price
points and afford us the opportunity to gain more exposure.
Don't get me wrong. That's okay for some, but not for us.
We make our fair share of wagons, but we aren't interested
in mass-producing or substituting cheaper materials just
to make a sale.
Our goal is to put as much of the cost of the product into
the product itself - no "bells and whistles" or
"sugar coating" to get you to buy our product.
Our products are much the same as we conduct our business
and live our lives - plain and simple. The craftsmanship
speaks for itself
however, I will admit we could do
better with our assembly instructions - that's the primary
reason for this website
About the site:
I'll be honest
I don't read directions unless I absolutely
have to
and I admit the directions you received with
your wagon are challenging; however, rather than go to the
expense of new drawings and additional paper assembly pages
with color (that get thrown away after assembly), we felt
a website with colored pictures of various undercarriages
(step by step) would be the most economical, user-friendly
way of easing any difficulty during assembly.
After you are finished with this site, there's a place
for feedback. Please leave some and tell me what we are
doing right/wrong. If desired, I'll do my best to personally
reply back to you. Also, you can find our number on the
instruction sheet. We have a small office, but efficient
staff, which helps keep our costs and prices down. There
may be a good chance that I will answer the phone. You will
receive a reply from us for your comments, suggestions,
and advice.
This website is new, and some pages are still under construction.
Some day, I want folks to send pictures, and we'll post
as many as we can on the site.
It's my hope you can sense my sincerity in thanking you
for buying our product and wishing you many years of fun
with our wagons.
Best Regards,
Art J. Yoder, President
